Fasten the 1 by 6 trim around the roof.

Run the first row of shingles upside down along the bottom edge of the roof using short roofing nails to hold it in place.
To keep the dog house extra dry you can cover the entire roof with asphalt impregnated roofing paper or tar paper.
The trim should stick up about 1 1 2 inches above the roof.
Start the next row of shingles directly on top of the first row right side up this time.
Use inch tacks or nails to secure the paper.
Make sure you center the plywood piece to the rafters before inserting the screws into place.
Cover the surface with tar paper and secure it into place with staples.
Create a sturdier roof.
Attaching your roofing material is important as you ll want to protect the dog house from rain and snow.
For better waterproofing consider using rubber roofing material and apply it to the plywood with construction adhesive.
Staple felt paper in between the 1 by 6 trim.
Continue adding rows until the side of the roof is covered.
Once you ve covered the house you can then add shingles for a traditional sophisticated look.
If you ve chosen to put down tar paper or other material underneath shingles put it down.
